Orchid is a controversial flower. It can go for weeks without watering and does not require special conditions. In order for it to bloom, you need to create the right regime of watering, humidity, lighting and temperature. Then the plant will delight you with its flowering for a long time.
Creating conditions for long flowering for orchids
In order for orchids to bloom as long as possible, you need to create the appropriate conditions for them:
- Sufficient lighting. Orchids love light, but not direct sunlight. Organize a place with artificial lighting or where there is enough natural light.
- Proper watering. Make sure that the top layer of the substrate is completely dry. Use settled water, but do not overdry the soil. Excess water is also harmful to delicate orchids.
- Optimum temperature. Orchids bloom best at a temperature in the range of 15-18 degrees at night and 18-24 degrees during the day. Do not place flowers in too warm rooms or, on the contrary, where the temperature changes.
- Use fertilizers. During flowering, these flowers need potassium and phosphorus, which allow them to prolong their flowering.
- Do not expose the plant to stress. Moving, changes in care and other stress factors negatively affect flowering.
It should be remembered that for each type of orchid, like other indoor plants, appropriate conditions and care should be created.
The orchid has finished flowering, what next
Flowering, without a doubt, exhausts the plant, so it needs to create conditions for recovery and the formation of new flower stalks.
How to care for an orchid after flowering:
- If the stem of the flower stalk has dried out, carefully cut it at the base. Leave the green stems, they can bloom again.
- Water carefully. Give the plant time to rest, reduce watering, but do not allow the substrate to dry out.
- Reduce the concentration of fertilizers. You can stop feeding the flower while it is resting, fertilize it less often and reduce the concentration so as not to damage the roots.
- Repot as needed. Use high-quality substrates for proper drainage and maintaining root ventilation.
- Maintain an optimal temperature and sufficient lighting. Follow the care recommendations for a specific type of orchid.
- Try not to disturb the plant unnecessarily, but regularly remove dried, damaged or diseased leaves.
By following these simple recommendations, everyone can create the right conditions for their favorite flowers. And they will delight you again with abundant and long flowering!
